Taking care of our immune system is crucial for maintaining good health and overall well-being. There are several ways we can support our immune system and provide it with the help it needs to function optimally. One important step is to ensure that we are getting all the necessary vitamins and nutrients through a balanced diet. Foods rich in vitamins C, D, E, and zinc are particularly beneficial for immune support. However, sometimes it can be challenging to get all the nutrients we need from food alone. In such cases, considering supplements can be a great option to fill in any gaps and give our immune system an extra boost.

As human beings, we have both an innate immune system and an adaptive immune system. The innate immune system simply refers to the defence system we are born with. It protects us against antigens and can issue a powerful immune response in the event of a molecular danger presenting itself.
If the innate immune system is unable to eradicate a threat, the adaptive immune system takes centre stage. The adaptive or acquired immune system uses specific antigens to mount a strategic immune response. However, in order for the immune system to consistently and appropriately protect us, it needs to be properly balanced.
Our immune system function is typically determined by the food we eat but sometimes food sources are not enough to maintain normal functioning. Vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc, the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D and a whole host of other vitamins and minerals are key for keeping your immune cells healthy and maintaining normal function.
The main problem, in this case, is that a busy lifestyle or certain health conditions may impact our ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle and good immune health. Beyond just taking your typical vitamin C supplements or eating citrus fruits, there are a multitude of immune support supplements that make a good option if you're looking to boost your immune system.
Immune support supplements help our immune system operate efficiently by providing it with key vitamins and minerals that are potentially lacking in one's diet. Much like multivitamins, immune system vitamins are typically taken once a day, all year round but can have particularly beneficial effects in winter months when infections like the common cold start spreading again.
Studies have shown that supplementing with certain vitamins, such as vitamin D, is good for preventing upper respiratory tract infections. Vitamin D is also particularly useful for promoting normal growth and normal bones in children and infants.
